In need of an energy shot.

For some reason, I am not in a blogging mood lately. Feel physically tired. This fatigue is not practice related - I was exhausted yesterday evening, and it was a moon day with no mysore in the morning. Took an hour-long nap at 6 pm, but then by 8:30 was ready to retire to bed completely. This is not normal, no? Might be a side effect of "detoxing" or somesuch.

Today's practice was a little slow, but very satisfying in the end. David asked me what my last pose was and whether I was ready to move on. Hell, yes! It has been nearly a year since I got a new pose. I know he is just being cautious with all my multiple injuries, so it is OK with me. I feel that at last I got over this urge to get a new pose. Or maybe I lost this urge temporarily because I have this challenge of getting into Dwi Pada - Supta Kurmasana on my own, and it keeps my competitive fibers occupied at the moment. Whatever is at work, I feel good about my practice at the moment.

At work craziness starts with summer students arriving. It is a good kind of craziness, though. Two of them are here already, one will be here next week. Our quiet lab is not so quiet anymore!

I was kept at a posture for well over a year. It happens, it's good for ya, teaches you to just enjoy the practice you have rather than focusing on the practice you want. The day will come when you will not only stop adding postures, but begin to take them away.

New pose, hooray! There is something so satisfying about your teacher thinking you are ready, knowing you can do it. Pleased with your effort and progress. I wonder sometimes if it's also a little bit about encouragement, a reward for sticking with it...The new pose thing fascinates me.

What's your new pose? Shalabasana?

Hi, Anon:

I agree and I am surprisingly at peace with it. I remember my frantic desire to get a pose last year and smile. I guess I was young then. :)

Alin, hi!

I have not gotten a pose yet. Tomorrow, perhaps. He just asked. I have to tell, David is not very big in terms of rewards. He thinks that practice is a reward on its own. I still love him. :P

Energy shot could be...FOOD! You're not eating enough, Alfia...your body needs more than fruit....just sayin'.

So, what is the next pose going to be?

Pose tease! Haha, he knows you'll be front and center tomorrow. :)

I trust you know enough about nutrition to make wise choices during your Fruitarian phase. A thoughtful, informed person such as yourself can most definitely eat nothing but fruit and thrive. Certainly doesn't protect you from fatigue though, happens to the best of us!

So, fruitarians, a question: what is your protein source? Our bodies need protein to mend our muscles after workouts and in general from daily wear and tear. Not nearly as much as most Americans mange. But some. So...is it in the fruit diet?

Yogachickie: there is a lot of literature out there on the matter; if you're genuinely curious, google will take you far. you'll be able to find well argued positions on both sides of the protein question and then you can decide for yourself.

Lauren - the fruit have 10% of protein and 10% of fat, which makes it a perfect 80/10/10 diet base. I am not sure yet about the essential amino acids, I am not completely through with the book yet. But looking at the 811 community forums, it seems that even long-term practitioners enjoy good health (many of them are also "cronies"), it fills me with some degree of confidence.
I have never been on a diet before, so I am also curious how such a drastic change would affect my body (my "diet" before was very much like yours). So if it does not work long-term, I will abandon it. But so far - I am very happy and not hungry at all (I am getting 2K calories daily and full nutrition).

My last pose is krounchasana, so I hope David will move me up to bhekasana tomorrow. If he doesn't, I will remind him! :)

definitely make sure you're getting greens!! i get in at least a pound a day. as anon said, you really don't need nearly as much protein as is recommended (and in fact too much can be tough on your kidneys, liver, GI, and also depletes the body of calcium).

also, if you feel excessively tired, try adding a little bit of overt fats (maybe 1/4 avocado a day). this slows down the detox process. hope that helps, fellow 811er! (^_^)
