Fighting friction.

Day three of practice this week was heavy. But again, I need to memorize that feeling of well being afterward, even if I felt tired during the practice.
Anyway, I found an interesting cheat this morning. I was wearing cropped pants, and a tank top with open shoulders. So I sprayed some water on my leg before attempting Dwi pada, and it really helped to slide that stiff right leg back. I still was not able to bind the legs on my own, but both of my feet touched and it felt that I was much closer to success. Keith helped me to bind the legs and I bound my hands on my own in supta kurmasana. Practically for the first time in my life.
I am so excited! :) Then I lifted up, and uncurled into tittibasana. No friction there - my legs went down with unexpected speed and crushed loudly on the floor. Something to pay attention to.

Hi, Tova!
I hope it will, otherwise it would be sad, don't you think?
Thank you, I got a bunch of new yoga clothes (like I needed any more), to keep myself motivated. Nothing helps like old good retail therapy.

Hi, Rayna
:D
See, we need to share those things, otherwise it takes forever to come up with them on our own...

I think that Portside might join us on 811. Isn't it exciting?

that is fabulous!! you two will be part of my support network! yay!! (^_^)

how is 811 going so far, btw? i fell off the wagon this weekend; i've accepted that this will be a transitional thing for me - i can't dive in 100% and never look back.

I fell off yesterday, too. Had to cook a mushroom soup - it was still 811v, but no longer r. Sigh. Just had to have hot liquid food...

you know, it's the one thing almost all raw foodists seem to have - the issue with needing "hot" foods. and it's even harder with 811rv because condiments, etc. are not recommended. but if ananda would tolerate it, i'd definitely include some hot peppers to "heat" things up...

I would just settle for hot soup, hot in terms of temperature. I am not too big on spices. That soup was extremely satisfying. :(

hi Alfia
good idea. i need to find a new sprayer. the last three i bought got arthritic about a month after i bought them and stopped squirting.

811, sounds close to 911. hehe.
hugs
Arturo

Hi Alfia, that's brilliant managing to bind you own hands in Supta K, its a great feeling the first time you do it on your own.

Thanks for the backbend vibes.

Hi Alfia...it isn't cheating to wear clothes that add or reduce friction. Not cheating at all. Wear what clothes you need...but as you will see, the slipperiness that helps in Supta K will mess you up in the exit out into Tittibhasana! I have gotten used to it for the most part, and by the time I get to Pasasana, I usually have frictioned up again (lack of sweat between Garba P and Pasas).

The cheating part was spraying water on my leg and shoulder :). You are right, though, I did pay for it in tittibasana. But then jump from bakasana was a breeze. More pluses than minuses, I think.

Still not cheating. How can there be such a thing as "cheating" in yoga anyway? Where's the rulebook anyway? Who wrote it?

alfia said...

It just feels like cheating. But you are right, Lauren. If we can use water for Gharba Pindasana, why not for Dwi Pada? Thank you. You made me feel better about it.

Just say no to arbitrary rules in yoga.

Saying no to rules does not come naturally to me. I grew up under a totalitarian regime, which broke the rebellious bone in my body. :D
