Finger curse.

It is official - I can stand up from UD only every other day. I am OK with that, beats never be able to stand any day.

There is something going on in the finger department. I started it, when in July I caught a ball awkwardly and hurt my left index finger. Still hurts a little, even after six month.s Anyway, then my boss hurt her left thumb and could not do much for a while. In December, we got a new IRTA fellow to work in the lab, Nick. Nice guy. Right after the holiday, he fell down on the slippery stairs and broke his left index finger. Not a huge break, but a piece of bone is chipped off the joint, not very pleasant. He made an appointment with an excellent hand surgeon in Baltimore for Monday, and was trying to persuade me to come with him, to check out that July injury. Today, my buddy LaShon came to work late - she broke her left middle finger! A very nasty, spiral brake of the proximal phalanx bone. Ugh! She walked her dog, which suddenly charged to pursue another dog, and her fingers got caught in a leash. She says there was a loud popping noise and then - unbelievable pain. It seems that Nick might get a companion for a road trip to Baltimore, after all.
Anyway, I think I will walk around a bit more carefully for the nearest future. What if the curse is still there and we will start another round? I need my fingers. Can't work or do yoga without them. Need to cross them for a while, so I will stop typing now. :)
Happy Friday!

Hi, JS - You crack me up! Jumping butt. :D

I know, crazy, huh? Mine is ok, as long as it does not affect my yoga - I do not care.

XOXO

I'll be happy if I stand up just once in my lifetime from UD, though I can't see me living long enough for it ever to happen.

You should of been born with an extra hand digit, like I was one, only trouble is somebody cut it off when I was 6 months old!

Hi, Kevin:

I am sure you will stand up from UD in no time. Lots of it is the strength in the abs and quads, and I am sure you are plenty strong there. The depth of the backbend does not really matter. We have a person in shala who's backbend is like a bench - non-existent. And he still stands up from it through the sheer strength. Quite amazing, let me tell you. So do not despair! :)
Extra finger would be interesting. One extra limb to break!

So maybe there is hope!

It was actually an extra thumb on my left hand I had.Buying gloves could have been a problem though.

hi Alfia
sorry about all the finger troubles. one company i worked in years ago had over aggressive volleyball players and people - many programmers among them - where breaking fingers, so the managers advised people to be less aggressive in sports.

Yesterday i had some news that got me so excited that I did several impromptu sun salutations. one of those was in the kitchen area, which is housed under the loft floor, which is only at 7'2" high. ouch! luckily today my fingers are okay.

hugs

hi Alfia

now i read Kevin's comments. I guess i'm in a similar boat. Come to think of it, one of my teachers dropback also tends to look like a workbench dropping, but he does come up to standing. this week i gave a good try to rocking to coming up.

hugs
Arturo

The finger curse is making me laugh... but it IS weird that so many injuries are happening all around you (and to you!).
Hope your finger heals soon. (and standing up every other day is pretty darn good- you should be proud!)

Hi, Andrew:

Thank you for visiting. And you are right, everything will come with practice. In 2-10 years. :)

Hi, Liz!
Weird, isn't it? At least it is finger, not arms, legs or necks, God forbid. So if it is me who is cursed, it is a relatively benign curse.
