The end of a good week

Last Sunday I decided to be more mindful in my purchases and implement a reward system. If I fulfilled 80% of everything I planned, I can buy a gadget I wanted for some time. The plan included not skipping Mysore, doing home yoga, doing meditation every day, packing 5 hours of writing (work paper) and 2 hours of preparing a package for the job search; monitoring my eating, and so on. Quite a few items. One of them was losing 2 lbs as a result of careful CRONing. Though I was quite satisfied with what was done, one big thing failed - not only I did not lose 2 lbs, I gained 2! Not sure how it happened. I was eating very good, 1/5- 2 hours of yoga every day, 6-8K of steps, 3 liters of water. What is up with that, I wonder? I really hope this is a temporary setback, body getting used to the idea of returning to healthy eating. Anyway, the plan was fulfilled only by 70%, so no gadget for me, sigh. But I am still happy - it feels I can show something for this week, regardless. I will tweak the plan a little for the next week, setting more realistic goals, so that I can indulge myself with the new shiny gadget.
Happy weekend, everyone!
:)

Are so you are another gadget lover, yours looks fun, I think you deserve it for the effort you put in.

This is my next gadget,in my dreams at least, or maybe when I bind my feet in Supta K!

Oh, Kevin, I am a complete gadget freak. There is no room in my apartment just from the power cords of all the gadgets I own.
I like your dream gadget very much. I own one of the old version of Archos mp3-recorders. It seems like a very decent company, their products are very reliable. The gadget I want is actually supposed to replace my old archos - it is too bulky, though it works nicely for 7 years already.
I gave up on Supta K for now. Need to lose 15 or something pounds to bind arms on my own in it. Ugh.

My current gadget is a Nokia N810 tablet, but its a devil to turn on, the tiny button is a pain and I sometimes spend 5 minutes pressing it to get it to turn on. It sems to be a known problem with this Nokia toy, which is why I am looking for something similar but better! More toys

It looks good! Has a file manager, which Ipod touch woefully lacks. My favorite is still a pocket PC, because of Word - Excel capabilites, voice recording, web and so on. Unfortunately, I switched to Mac, and there is no good interface between the two. Sigh. I am dreaming of a gadget that would have everything I need in one. Not holding my breath to have it anytime soon, though...

I like the drop down qwerty keyboard, so I can do email and even blog on it when I'm away, but its annoying not being able to have word and Excel. I would love one that has voice recording as well, have you seen a pocket pc with all that? Have been looking at the Archos online, tho it has wifi, I cant see how you could use it for e-mail, no keyboard.

Pocket PCs can do practically everything a normal PC can do. Typing is with a stylos on a virtual keyboard. My husband developed an amazing speed using the stylos, he can take minutes of a meeting like a stenographer (the distances for the stylos to travel are small, so the speed that can be achieved is amazing). There is WIFI, internet explorer, Acrobat reader and all the MS office programs. Memory is expandable, there is no boot time. I miss it!

I used to offer myself retail therapy rewards for staying away from men who were bad for me.

I think scales are evil! Bad scales!

I'm going to be pigging out tonight. Am going to try to fast all day because of that. We'll see.

So who makes a good one? Sounds just like the kind of gadget I need.

Kevin, check out this one:
HP pocket pc . I own this one and love it!

Hi, Linda:
Did it work for you? What did you buy as a result? It seems like a mighty motivator for me.

You can afford pigging out. Do not even have to fast before! You, vata people have an easier life than us, poor kapha sufferers. :p

Right after I said that I opened a bag of almonds. The only reason I have snack food in apartment is cause I just saw my mother.

I bought myself a new iPod once, before I'd even fully broken or lost the current. This guy I'd been fruitlessly in love with had just returned to NYC after being away 4 months & he DIDN'T call me right away. Instead I bumped into him at the gym & was crushed. So I vowed that if & when he called, if I didn't pick up the phone, I could get myself the latest model iPod.

I was laying in bed on a Sunday post practice a couple weeks later. Phone rang. I went, "Oh my GOD!" and immediately put my clothes back on & headed out the door to the Apple Store.

:D I pictured it so vividly!
What if he could not call you before due to circumstances? What if he was a decent guy at heart? You probably know better anyway, and he had other vices, too.

If it took a single one-time effort for me, I would go broke. It needs to be a sustained effort to make it challenging. But I should really consider joining shopaholics anonymous or somesuch. Need to think about the retirement. :(

This was the Australian.

He never loved me. Sure he liked me, but he LOVED alcohol. Before he left for that Alaska fishing trip I thought, "What if he dies?" So I blurted out that I loved him. I knew it was useless. First he looked like he was going to faint and then he said, "But I'm just a big CHILD!"

He was right.

Now we're friends.

Alfeeeeea! Hi!

Yes, it feels good to be back. I've been so busy lately, it's great to be surfing yoga blogs again from the comfort of chez moi.

Cool little gadget. What would you use it to record?

alfia said...

Hi, JS! I love it that you are back (jumping in my chair) :D
As for the recorder... I have a much easier time talking about things than writing about them. So I developed a habit of babbling out things I need to write about, transcribing the records and then using them as starting points for writing. Some of the ideas for my work come to me while I drive, so I record them as well. Not much stays in my head otherwise, unfortunately. See, I need it!!!

Well, that looks like an awesome gadget!!!! Actually, I was thinking that I should get a recorder from some of my meetings; and now you've given me a devilish idea... ;)

I'm always into shopping temptations, I admit, so I totally understand. Lately my rewards have been Yoga-Related: like buying new Yoga clothes :) I also tend to go nutty when buying music and books... well, and shoes, of course--those always fit, no matter my gaining or losing weight!

On the sudden weight gain: (1) you look awesome; (2) could it be something like water retention? --by this I mean, maybe this is just not permanent weight.

Another thing is that the body sometimes takes a little while to react to good behavior, and then, suddenly it changes --you may find yourself losing the weight quickly next week, so don't lose heart :)

Hi, Nairam:

Thank you! I value your support.
Yes, let's buy recorders! Useful thing. Though you seem not to have any trouble putting the words together. I would say you are quite eloquent!

Oh, now I've got gadget envy :( I seriously need a new phone, and one that I can blog on!

How very irritating that you were good with your diet and still gained weight. GRRRR. I think Nairam is right, and the weight loss will catch up with you.
